How it is calculated
The Düsseldorfer Tabelle sets a monthly need (Bedarf) per child by the paying parent's adjusted net income and the child's age. Half of the Kindergeld (259 €, so 129.50 €) is deducted for minors, all of it for adult children – the rest is the Zahlbetrag. The parent must keep at least the Selbstbehalt (1,450 € when working, 1,200 € when not). The table assumes two people entitled to support; with more or fewer, courts may move one group down or up.

Questions and answers
What counts as adjusted net income?
Net pay after tax and social insurance, minus work-related costs, debts that are recognised and other support obligations. Courts decide what is recognised in each case.
Is Kindergeld deducted?
Yes: half of it for minor children, the full amount for adult children. The table's Zahlbetrag already includes this.
What happens in the Wechselmodell?
With equal care both parents are liable for cash support according to their incomes; the table alone does not give the answer. Get advice from the Jugendamt or a lawyer.
